When I saw Marinette Lesne’s Persimmon layout in my inbox, I may have squealed a little bit. I love the way she effortlessly mixes Persimmon with Capture to create a Autumn-inspired masterpiece. Happy Fall!

Here she layers an acetate Capture die cut over a Hello film frame and highlights the pairing with a handful of arrow stickers.

The stack of Capture and Persimmon papers layered beneath the photo add depth and textural interest.

Carte Postale | Alexes Brown

Q&A

Today we are so fortunate to have the super talented Alexes Brown here to share two beautiful layouts she made using Carte Postale! Here’s what she has to say:

Basic Grey | Carte Postale | Alexes Brown

Alexes: Hey Guys! It’s Alexes Brown and I’m really excited to be here on the BasicGrey Blog! I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of a dream come true! When Shara invited me to work with the Carte Postale line, I was thrilled and I’m here today to show you what I created. I usually don’t work with 8 1/2 x 11 but I thought I would try something new and lemme tell you, it was a blast! I’m a huge proponent of changing up the size your normally scrap with because it lets you be creative in a completely different way and it also keeps you from getting bored!

I really liked playing around with the grid format I used. All I did was slap my picture down and started creating different rows with all kinds of different embellishments. Super easy and I absolutely love the look of the colors with the kraft paper!

I left some room for journaling and then I was finished! I really love the way this page turned out! The Carte Postale line is perfect for traveling but it also lends itself very well to lifestyle scrapbooking.

For my second layout, I really wanted to try a new technique and as I was browsing through Pinterest I kept noticing all of the die cut pages with pattered paper behind and I thought I’d give it a try!

In my silhouette I took a star shape, made it a bunch of different sizes and then just started placing them in different areas on my page.

I picked out some of my very favorite papers from the Carte Postale line to use behind. After I had everything situated I glued my scraps down behind each star. I thought it needed a little extra texture so I took my sewing machine and stitched around my three biggest stars and voila! Thanks for stopping by!! Now go cut up some paper!

 A B O U T

Home: Home is technically Utah right now but my husband is about to graduate from Grad School in the next month and we’re still not sure where we will end up.
Workspace:: Don’t laugh but I create in a huge walk in closet! I’m not going to lie, I love it!
Favorite Color Palette: I’m addicted to teal, navy and white… If I could use it in every project, I totally would!
Social Media Preference: I love me some Instagram!! Follow me! @dearlexedesigns!
Playlist: Honestly I’m not a big music person… I’m not even sure where my ipod is lol
Inspiration Source: I love pinterest! I love browsing through all the different crafting boards! There’s always something that inspires me!
Early Bird or Night Owl: Ideally I’d like to be able to create in the afternoon but my kiddos keep me wayyy to busy! So it’s nighttime crafting for me, but I always get so sleepy!
BG Product You Hoard: I’m obsessed with mini things, so it would have to be the mini alphas, I want them all!!
Three Random Facts About You: 1.) I’m a horrible speller; chances are I’ve made a spelling error somewhere in this post! 2.) I’m a cancer survivor! Yay for being in remission! 3.) Remember that old Nickelodeon show called Double Dare, well yours truly was on it and I actually got slimed! Good times!
Advice for Newbie Crafters: Something that held me back for years was being to afraid to use my product! My new mantra is “Go Big or Go Home” use that product up! You’ll be happy you did, I promise!

Blueprint No. 011

BasicGrey Blueprint

Tina Aszmus was one of the first designers I discovered upon falling in love with scrapbooking a few years back and to this day, she is still one of the first persons I turn to for inspiration! So when I passed this week’s Blueprint inspiration along to her, I had no doubt it would be amazing. Boy, was I right. Here’s how Tina rocked Blueprint No. 011:

One of my favorite things about this layout is how the majority of the numbers, icons, and phrases she used are from a single sheet of the Nifty paper from the Hipster collection.

Another thing to point out is how Tina incorporated the circle motif from the inspiration piece with patterned paper (both positive + negative space circles), mixed brads, and vellum tape stickers. She also allotted for ample white space so that the supplies she chose to use could really stand out.

Home: I’ve lived in Anchorage, Alaksa for most of my life.
Workspace: I do most of my crafting on my dining room table. It’s nice to be with my husband and son while crafting rather than being in a separate room. A lot of times, I’ll bring my supplies down to the floor of our living room to work on things like Project Life so I can enjoy a little tv time while crafting.
Favorite Color Palette: I tend to lean towards neutrals with hints of color. Loving hints of bright yellow + neon.
Social Media Preference: Instagram, hands down. I never could get into Facebook and Twitter.
Playlist: I listen to some electronic music (my husband likes to say that I have robot ears), Cat Power, and White Stripes. Sometimes rap….just depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m catching up on my favorite tv shows on Hulu.
Inspiration Source: I find inspiration everywhere. It’s easy to get caught up on Pinterest or blogs thinking that will end your creative block but I found through personal experience that it did the opposite. Go outside, draw, paint, try a new medium. I also like to photograph objects or my surroundings, that always gets the gears turning.
Early bird or Night Owl: I can be both. I use to be an early bird, now I’m a bit of a night owl but I still get up early.
BG Product You Hoard: I use to hoard the patterned papers but now I’m in this whole “use what you love” mode. I was tired of living in my own scrapbook store.
Three Random Facts About You: 1.) I have to follow dinner with something sweet. It’s ingrained in me. 2.) I love deconstructing patterned paper. 3.) I’m notorious for leaving my car lights on + letting my battery die. One day I’ll learn. Or just get a new car.
Advice for Newbie Crafters: My advice for those just starting out in scrapbooking is to just start. Don’t worry about what your personal style is or having to purchase items that are part of the latest trend. Start simply and produce projects you love. If you get stuck or don’t know where to start, try sketches such as the Basic Grey Blueprints and participating in challenges…it’s a great push in the right direction.
