Carte Postale Eye Spy

BasicGrey | Carte Postale

BasicGrey’s Carte Postale is the quintessential collection of papers and embellishments that work perfectly for recording travel adventures, vacations, everyday moments and so much more. In one of our many perusals of Pinterest, we came across this amazing layout created by Kim Price of Australia.

The oversized photo that runs edge to edge on the top half of Kim’s page, provided her with the perfect open space to attach one of the pre-sewn Carte Postale Garlands. For added texture, Kim punched the top edge of the photo with a notebook border punch.

Another detail that caught our eye was Kim’s assorted, overlapping placement of stickers, flair, buttons, transparencies and chipboard shapes, all in an embellishment cluster that adorns the bottom half of her page.

All this variety of ephemera reinforces the theme of her page, adding interest, texture and immediate curiosity about her page. An Eye Spy indeed! We hope you love Kim’s page as much as we did.

Blueprint No. 027

BasicGrey Blueprint

Today’s Blueprint interpretation comes to us from the always innovative Jana Eubank! Enjoy!

BasicGrey Blueprint

Jana: I love this week’s blueprint! I immediately wanted to recreate the shredded paper from the typewriter as an element on my page. I was also inspired by the color scheme of the blueprint. It reminded me of the Carte Postale collection. I pulled out a few photos from our family vacation to Arches National Park and got to work. I followed the inspiration by using orange as my background and then built lighter layers on top.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a series of wavy strips and then used scissors to trim them in a similar fashion as the inspiration photo.

I think the typewriter icon had me subconsciously picking out office-inspired elements, because I kept gravitating towards items from the Carte Postale collection with a tabbed or notebook edge to them. I tore a few pages from the 5 x 7″ Spiral Journal to use as layers on my page. I also selected the notebook-edged border sticker to go along the bottom of the page.

Audrey Pettit has a great little gift idea to share with us today using the Carte Postale line. I see this working well with RSVP for a birthday gift also.

AudreyPettit BG CartePostale CarePack

Audrey: This fall, my son went off to college, and it’s been my goal to put together little care packages periodically to send him in the mail. This fun envelope packet is a great way to package up some smaller goodies like cash, gift cards, and notes from home. I know he’s going to love it, and I love that I can easily mail his treat in just a small padded envelope.

The base of this cute packaging is made from a scrap piece of chipboard to give it a bit of strength, and then covered with patterned paper and a cascading waterfall of small envelopes. It looks fancy, but really is quite simple to put together, and the project can be easily adapted to fit more, or fewer, envelopes as needed.

Here are a few steps for putting this together:

AudreyPettit BG CartePostale CarePack Tut1

Begin by die cutting three seed package envelopes from a mixture of Carte Postale 12×12 patterned papers.

Fold the envelopes closed and secure the side flaps with strong adhesive, like red line tape.

Cut a 4 1/2″ x 7″ piece of chipboard for the base. If you don’t have any chipboard, use an old cereal box or some kind of food packaging instead. Cover the chipboard with patterned paper and edge panel with brown ink.

Starting at the bottom of the chipboard panel, lay one die cut envelope onto the panel, and secure with vellum tape. Lay the second envelope in the center of the chipboard panel, and the third one at the top, securing each envelope with tape as you go.

Fill the envelopes with treats, photos, and notes, and then tie ribbon around the center of the package.

Cut a 3 1/2″ x 5″ panel of patterned paper for a tag. Layer the tag with your favorite Snippets and die cuts. I cut apart and pieced a couple of the 3″ x 4″ Snippets and the 4″ x 6″ Snippets for a fun look, and added machine stitching for an extra detail.

Die cuts from the Carte Postale Waterfall Theme Pack, brads, and an inked wood die cut finish things off, while small alpha stickers from the Waterfall pack create a quick and easy sentiment.
