Happy Friday! Today I am excited to share a few sneak peeks into a 5×7″ Noteworthy mini book I recently created for the CHA Summer show. The phrases and journaling prompts within the book lend themselves well to the theme of self-reflection, so I decided to base my album off of where I’m at at this point in my life. It’s kind of therapeutic to build an entire book off of my favorite things; whether it’s a quote, an event, a favorite photo, or a list of hobbies…they all are so much fun to think about and build pages around! I highly recommend creating a book like this for yourself! Here’s how it came together:
I knew I wanted the title of the album to be small, so I went heavy with the embellishments and included designer journaling inserts, Carte Postale paper and wood veneers (covered with yellow craft paint), a tab sticker, and Candy Buttons.
For this spread, I printed out a small photo of my giant bun (which I’m afraid I wear far too often…but I had to keep the album true to who I am!) and used a circle punch and dimensional adhesive to give it prominence. The letter stickers next to it spell out my initials. For the opposite page, I cut out one of my favorite mantras on Carte Postale Michigan Avenue paper with my Cameo die-cutting machine. I also added a black arrow sticker and a strip of vellum tape for additional flair.
This spread was built entirely around the photo strip frame die-cut from the Carte Postale waterfall pack. I knew I wanted my journaling to be the focal point, so I wrote three sentences with my typewriter and tucked them behind each of the photo strip squares. Additional embellishments used include Snippets, more of the Carte Postale Michigan Avenue paper, label stickers, and Candy Buttons.
I love when a single embellishment inspires an entire page or project!
This final spread was inspired by the phrase “Be Yourself” on the righthand page design. Since I wanted that sentiment to stand out, I used a photo of what my everyday workspace tends to look like, added in a few letter stickers, a vellum tape strip, Candy Buttons, and another Carte Postale wood veneer painted in yellow for extra pop. Quick and easy, but very indicative of what my life looks like at the moment.
Thanks so much for letting me share my album! I hope I have inspired you to bust out a few craft supplies and make something special this weekend!
