Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 10.3.11

Loving Each & Every Day | Rae Barthel

Supplies: [Indie Bloom] INB-3418 6 x 6 Paper Pad, INB-3421 Title Stickers.

Happy Monday!  A new sketch makes it happier anyway, right?

This week’s sketch is based on this card from BasicGrey design team member Rae Barthel.  Her card was inspired by the sentiment sticker she chose and she used the colors in the sticker to guide her in choosing which patterned papers to use.

Upon first look, you wouldn’t guess that Rae’s card was made form only two products, would you?  To add interest and dimentions, she used a die cut and a border punch on two of the card’s patterned papers.  Rae notes, “To makethe rosette, I cut two 1″ strips from the 6″ x 6″ paper pad.  Each stripmakes 1/2 of the rosette.  Then I simply accordion folded each strip, adhered the strips together to create a 12″ strip, and then adhered the ends to create a rosette.”  Talk about making your patterned paper work for you!

This week’s sketch could easily be translated into a card or layout design.  Whatever you feel like creating – go for it!  Or if you’re feeling extra inspired, create both while you already have coordinating product out!

Old School | Lynn Gharary

Design team member Lynn Gharary used this week’s sketch and our Oxford collection to create a scrapbook layout instead of a card.  She made the translation from one project to another look effortless!  Lynn says,  “I kept the basic design of my layout similar to Rae’s card while adding in an additional vertical paper strip to house my journaling and a few smaller photos. I loved the paper rosette on Rae’s card and created not one but two of my own to better suit the size and scale of my layout. These paper rosettes are so fun and easy to create, but really pack a punch by adding lots of dimension and depth.”

We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by October 9, 2011 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, be sure to also upload it to our new BasicGrey Flickr page so that other BG fans can find your work easily.
