A new month brings a new theme for our flickr pool challenge and we hope you’ll be a part of it!
Each month, we provide a theme for you to use on your projects and then ask you to upload them to our flickr pool. At the end of each month, we’ll select a few of our favorites to post here on our blog and send them some BasicGrey goodies as our way of saying thanks. Sound good? You’re free to create any project you’d like – a card, a layout, an altered piece, a mini album – whatever you’d like! You’re also able to incorporate the monthly theme into projects that you upload for our sketch series or any other challenges.
And now for the details…
The theme for this month is “typography”. Our newly released Clippings collection contains several great examples of type used creatively. How will you include one on your next project?
You | Marinette Lesne
We also issued this challenge to three of our design team members Marinette Lesne created this layout using this month’s theme as a starting point. She says, “I love typography. I always find a lot of inspiration about it on Pinterest. What I love the most in typography is that you can play with the placement , the size and the space of the letters. It adds a great touch of originality to the letterforms and particularly on a layout. I started my layout by the title because I knew it would take a important place on it. I mixed uppercase with lowercase and played with descenders and ascenders, horinzontality and verticality.I chose two different colors and sizes of alpha stickers. In order to focus on typography I used a long title. I also used a number stamp on the right of my picture to show you another example of typography. Typography is the perfect tool to combine art and craft.”
Music Takes Me Higher | Larissa Albernaz
Design team member Larissa Albernaz also created a layout using this month’s theme. Larissa notes, ”Inspired by this month´s challenge I created a page that portrays my daughter´s favorite playlist at this moment. Typography is the base of my design here. I surrounded her photos by some of her favorite songs written with a few different Basic Grey´s alphabets and mixed this with my tittle that is: Music Takes me HIgher!”
Nicknames | Ann Costen
Digital design team member Ann Costen used this month’s theme as an opportunity to document the many nicknames she has for her dog. Ann notes, “I love titles. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever done a layout without a title! With this month’s typography theme, I took the opportunity to have some fun with a long title to document all of the funny nicknames that my daughter and I have for our puppy. I know the rule of thumb for using fonts on a layout is to use no more than three but sometimes rules are meant to be broken!”
Now it’s your turn! Upload your projects to our BasicGrey flickr pool, making sure to tag it with our monthly theme “812typography” so that we can find it easily. Projects must be uploaded by August 30, 2012 at 11:59p MST.
