Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 7.30.12

This week’s sketch from BasicGrey sketch artist Susan Stringfellow is designed as a two page layout utilizing four photos.  Feel free to use this sketch as is or simply use half of the sketch for a single page layout – or whatever you wish! – the possibilities are endless!

Best Friends | Megan Klauer

As usual, I’ve also asked a couple of our design team members to use this week’s sketch as inspiration for their next project, including Megan Klauer.  Megan notes,  ”I enjoyed doing a two-pager so much! I very rarely do them; so this was a welcomed change. I stuck pretty closely to the sketch and then added a few of my own touches with clustering, etc. One thing that I always love to use is the front cover of the 6×6 paper packs and collection packs. The ones that show the little snippets of the papers. As you can see in the upper right hand corner of the right page I used the front cover of the 6×6 pack to create my banners. It’s just a fun twist and a great way to use packaging too!”

Bloom | Mary Rogers

Digital design team member Mary Rogers was also inspired by this week’s sketch.  She explains, “I love a sketch as a starting off point for my layouts, but honestly I get a bit intiminated by a double page layout.  Thinking about it for a bit, I finally settled on some recent photos from our flower garden.   I really worked off the sketch literally, because I loved the flow and the placement of elements.  I used papers and elements from Euphoria and Fusion Digital Collections for the majority of my layout because the colors and patterns worked so well with my photos.  I added textures (love these) from the Perhaps and Vagabond collections and elements from the Oxford kit (I created by circle journaling tags) and the Skate Shoppe collection.”

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one comment at random to receive a $10 credit to shop at Comment must be posted by August 5, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, we hope you’ll also upload it to our BasicGrey flickr pool and note what products you’ve used so that other BG fans can find inspiration from your work easily.

Hi !!

Hereby my layout based on the sketch above. I did make some changes, went from two pages, to just one, and instead of using the cirkel, I added a huge snowflake. I did use some valentines line from Basicgrey, but I can not remember exactly which one it was ;-)

Thanks for this great contest, had lots of fun making this layout, especially since its so warm outside right now…

Kind regards, Nicky.

  1. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what
all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a
pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% sure.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Appreciate it

  2. First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear
your head before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my mind
in getting my ideas out there. I do enjoy writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to
begin. Any recommendations or hints? Many thanks!

I love the knowledge you provide here and can’t wait
to take a look when I get home. I’m surprised at how quick your blog loaded on my cell phone ..
I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyhow, great

  4. Hi there! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone.
I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to fix this issue.
If you have any suggestions, please share. Thank you!
