Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 6.18.12

This week’s sketch from BasicGrey sketch artist Susan Stringfellow is designed as a two page layout featuring three 4×6 photos.  Whether you follow it exactly as outlined or use it simply as a starting point for your next project, we can’t wait to see what you create!

You Make Me A Better Person | Layle Koncar

This week we have two layouts to share from our design team using this sketch.  The first is from BasicGrey design team member Layle Koncar.  She notes, “OK, so you might be looking back and forth between the sketch and my layout and thinking ‘what the what’?!  That’s one of the things I love most about using sketches – you can be inspired by one single element on the sketch, like I was on this layout.  I loved the circle element on the left page of the sketch, so I chose to focus on that element for the primary design focus of my layout.  To create the circle, I used the Clippings Garland.  I used pop dots under most of the Garland circles to add some additional dimension.  The Garland wasn’t quite long enough for the full circle, so I just used a small circle punch to create additional circles.”

A Style Of Her Own | Ann Costen

BG digital design team member Ann Costen created this layout based on this week’s sketch.  Ann says, “There was a time when creating with sketches was my favourite way of scrapping. As I grew more comfortable with my style, my use of sketches became less and less but I will sometimes still use them especially when I feel that I’m in a rut (when all my layouts start looking the same). I had a lot of fun creating with this sketch and found it to be very versatile. I chose the Romani collection because the colours and patterns remind me a lot of my daughter’s wardrobe!”

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one comment at random to receive a $10 credit to shop at basicgrey.com. Comment must be posted by June 24, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, we hope you’ll also upload it to our BasicGrey flickr pool and note what products you’ve used so that other BG fans can find inspiration from your work easily.

Here is the link to my layout for the 6-18-12 challenge. I used the BG Oliver collection. I’m going to try and find your flicker acct now and add there too. Thanks for a great challenge and sketch and of course always such great products.

  1. Do we have to use only Basic Grey products? I love their products but unfortunately don’t have a lot of them.

    • Hi, Willa Jean!

You don’t have to use 100% BasicGrey product but we’d love to see you use some on your project!

  2. Love love LOVE the two-page sketches! There aren’t really a lot of sketches out there for 2-pager girls like me!

Thanks for remembering the 2-page scrapbookers!

    • Oh Karen, you should definitely go to Susan’s sketch site then. She has two page sketches and she just did two blog posts about how to turn a one page sketch in to a two page sketch with layout examples! She is fantastic!

  3. Totally fun sketch! Gotta give it a try. I only think Winnie the Pooh pictures when I see hexagons, so the Style of Her Own layout helped me think outside of the Pooh Bear box. Thanks BG!
