National Scrapbooking Day 2012 : Sizzix + BasicGrey Challenge

3 | Iris Babao Uy

CHALLENGE : Use Sizzix + BasicGrey product on your layout.

Many scrapbookers aren’t aware that our friends at Sizzix create the fantastic dies that coordinate with our collections.  We’re here to change that!  Because our products work so well together, we’d love to see you combine them on your next scrapbook layout!

BasicGrey design team member Iris Babao Uy created the stunning layout above using our PB&J collection.  Iris says, “BasicGrey’s PB&J collection makes me one happy crafter – because it has some sheets where you can hand-cut patterns, and lots of sheets which has beautiful bold colors and patterns which are perfect for die-cutting. In this layout, I used the more solid patterns with the sizzix dies to create tags, and branches with leaves and flowers.”

Think Happy Thoughts | Tammy Tutterow

We’re also thrilled to share with you this layout by Sizzix Design Team and Community Coordinator Tammy Tutterow.  Tammy notes, “I love the happy sunny feel of the BasicGrey PB&J collection.  It is one of those paper collections that make me smile.  I thought it was perfect for a photo of my daughter that also makes me smile and think of sunshine, even though it was a rainy and cloudy day when it was taken.”

She continues, “To create a center focus for my page, I die cut a piece of pattern paper (Thermos) that had a small simple design and adhered it to the center of the floral polka dot print (Fluffer Nutter, one of my favorites from the collection).  I matted my photo with sunny yellow paper (Sunny Day) and adhered it to the center of my page.  To add embellishments around my photo, I combined Chipboard Shapes with elements I die cut using BasicGrey Sizzix Dies.  I die cut the Flowering Plant die from two different papers, once from green (Whole Wheat) and twice from red (Daisy Mae).  I used just the flower portion of the red die-cuts adhering them over the green.  I adhered the two layers of the flowers just along the base so that it would create two layers.  I wanted more whimsical leaves so I die-cut new leaves using the Leave Embosslit die.  I inked the edges and raised surface of the leaves.  I also die-cut a heart from red paper (Creamy) using the Lacy Heart Embosslit die.  As I did with the leaf, I inked the edges and raised surface and then sanded it to soften the inking and expose the white core of the paper.  I added Sticker Titles along withe the chipboard and die cut elements for my date and title.”

We can’t wait to see what you create for this challenge! Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a $25 gift certificate to shop at basicgrey.com AND a Sizzix prize package. Comment must be posted by May 11, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, be sure to also upload it to our new BasicGrey flickr page so that other BG fans can find your work easily.
