Today, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to another member of our amazing design team. Just like you, it’s a great opportunity for me to learn a bit more about them as well! Let me introduce you to Lynn Ghahary.
“My name is Lynn Ghahary and I live in New Jersey with my husband and high school sweetheart Salar and our two wild and crazy boys, Darian and Brandon. I was first introduced to the wonderful world of scrapbooking way back in 2000. As a young girl I had always loved to be artsy and creative so this hobby was right up my alley and I was hooked immediately! I took a break from scrapbooking in 2004 when my first son was born and didn’t really come back to the hobby until 2008. Now that I’m back I am here to stay and have been completely in awe at how far this amazing craft has come since we first “met” nearly 10 years ago. Scrapbooking is my creative outlet – it lets me get in touch with who I am all while preserving our most cherished family photos and memories.
Not only do I love to scrapbook but I love to create paper crafts of all kinds including cards, mini albums, and altered projects. I am lucky enough to have had my work published in several magazines including Creating Keepsakes, CARDS, Paper Crafts, Scrapbooks ETC, Scrapbook Trends, and Scrapbook & Cards Today.
In addition to scrapbooking I am also an avid gardener, bookworm, and wannabe photographer. I am also a self-professed reality TV show junkie and organzing diva.”
We’re thrilled to have you as part of the BasicGrey team, Lynn! Now on to a little Q&A :
Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?
My first introduction to scrapbooking was way back in 2000 by my sister. She invited me to a scrapbooking party and I was hooked immediately on the whole idea of creating with my hands and documenting my family’s memories. I worked a crazy demanding full time job at the time that didn’t really leave me much opportunity to play, and I think I collected supplies more than I actually scrapbooked. I completely gave it up in 2004 when my first son was born (went so far as to sell all of my supplies on ebay!), but of course the appeal of all that pretty paper brought me back and I have been a scrapping fool ever since 2008.
What is your favorite color combination?
I’m a color junkie so I’m always inspired by the colors I see whether it’s in magazines, online, or just out and about my daily life. I’m especially drawn to bright colors and right now I am loving orange and turquoise together with splashes of navy, gray, and maybe even some yellow and green – a very boyish color palette which is totally reflective of my two boys!
What is your favorite thing about scrapbooking?
Oh there’s so much I love about this hobby. As a mom and wife I spend a lot of time taking care of others. When I scrapbook I feel like I’m taking care of myself – that creative soul that lives inside me and finds its fulfillment in playing with pretty papers. Scrapbooking is definitely creative therapy for me! And as a social worker (in a former life – hee!) I know that taking care of oneself is just as important (if not more so) than taking care of others. And of course the fact that I’m the fact that I am documenting my family’s most cherished memories at the same time – well that’s just icing on the cake!
What other hobbies do you enjoy besides scrapbooking?
I LOVE to garden. There is something just so fulfilling about watching something I’ve planted grow and bloom. I’m also an organizing diva and book junkie (murder mysteries are my favorite). Most recently I’ve been dabbling in photography. Earlier this year I attempted to take a photo a day for 2011. Although I only made it about halfway through the year it really helped me use my camera more and play with different aspects like lighting, composition, and focus. I’m thinking about trying it again for 2012!
Tell us three fun facts about you :
- I am hopelessly addicted to McDonald’s Coke. There is nothing quite like a fountain soda and it has to be from McDonald’s.
- If I wasn’t so squeamish and didn’t faint at the sight of blood I think I would’ve liked to be a CSI – I love the idea of solving murder mysteries.
- During our annual family vacation down in Ocean City, NJ I have to eat a slice of Mack & Manco’s pizza every single night on the boardwalk. I’ve been doing it since 2005 and don’t ever plan to stop. And yes their pizza really is that good that I can eat it 7 days straight and still long for more!
