Basic Card Sketch : 4.30.12

Happy Spring | Rae Barthel

We’re switching things up a bit this week and providing you with a sketch based on this card from BasicGrey design team member Rae Barthel.

Rae notes, “Ahhhhh, spring! I chose to base my ‘springy’ card around the Matsuri patterned paper, which I feel is the perfect depiction of spring, with its darling birds among the blooming branches.  The ‘happy spring’ chipboard piece provided the perfect sentiment for my card, and I love the flower/brad accent that I nestled among distressed punched circles. I couldn’t resist the banner and love how the alphabet stickers look on it! This card fell together quite naturally, thanks to the delicious patterned papers which tie together so effortlessly.”

Yes, this week’s sketch is based from a card but that doesn’t mean that’s what you have to create!  Use it for whatever you’d like – a card, layout, mini album, etc.  Your project, your choice!

We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one comment at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by May 6, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, we hope you’ll also upload it to our BasicGrey flickr pool and note what products you’ve used so that other BG fans can find inspiration from your work easily.

April 2012 flickr Friend Reveal : Lanterns and Banners

It’s hard to believe that the end of the month is already here and with it, we have another round of flickr Friends to reveal!

Each month, we provide a theme for you to use on your projects and then upload to our flickr pool. At the end of each month, we select a few of our favorites to post here on our blog and send them some BasjcGrey goodies as our way of saying thanks.

The theme for this month was “lanterns and banners” and was inspired by our new Konnichiwa collection as lanterns and banners are included within many of the paper and embellishment designs.

Without further ado, some of our favorites from our flickr pool using this month’s theme :

For the love of the game

At first glimpse, you might wonder where a lantern or banner is on this page but look again!  How clever to use two banner shapes to create a ribbon perfect for this sports themed page.

My Sister

The subdued colors of the patterned papers used on this layout work perfectly with the sepia toned photo.  This layout was also created for our Scraplift This! challenge on April 2nd.

With all the feminine details on this page, a few small banners and chipboard pieces in the upper left corner make for a perfect embellishment choice.

A BIG thank you to all of you who uploaded your projects – we love being able to feature your work here on the BG blog.  Winners keep an eye on your flickr mail as we’ll be in touch shortly to arrange your prizes.  Look for May’s theme to be posted next week!
