January 2012 flickr Friends Reveal : Snowflakes

It’s hard to believe that the end of the month is already here and with it, we have another round of flickr Friends to reveal!

Each month, we provide a theme for you to use on your projects and then upload to our flickr pool. At the end of each month, we select a few of our favorites to post here on our blog and send them some BasjcGrey goodies as our way of saying thanks. The theme for this month was “snowflakes” and was inspired by our Nordic Holiday collection. You’ll find snowflakes in many of the embellishments within this collection.  And at this time of year, what better time to document the weather outside your window?

First, I thought I’d share with you some great examples from our design team using this month’s theme :

Pamela notes, “I played with several collections for this layout.  I hand cut some snowflakes…the old fashioned way (fold and cut) and added them along the bottom as well as behind the center photo.  The chipboard snowmen brought the whole layout together.”

Larissa explains, “What a great challenge for someone who lives in the tropics – to incorporate a snowflake in a layout! Even though I saw the snow just a few times in my life, I have great moments that worth to be keep, so, I decided to create one page layout about one of these and have used one cute photo of my daughter. I also decorated Basic Grey´s chipoard monogram with one big snowflake chipboard taken from the Eskimo Kisses collection that I cut into pieces and added a few cute embellishments that were perfect to portray my photo.”
And without further ado, some of our favorites from our flickr pool using this month’s theme :
My Snowflake Beauty

My Snowflake Beauty | Polly McMillan Raymond

When you think snowflakes, you don’t often think of a primary color scheme, do you?  The unexpected color choices by Polly definitely grabbed our eye.

Chris Kringle | scrappyhappymom

In this layout, we love that the snowflakes were used more as an accent than as an integral part of the layout.  What a great filmstrip of photos documenting an almost tree mishap!

A BIG thank you to all of you who uploaded your projects and of course, to our two winners!  We’ll be in touch shortly to arrange your prizes.  Look for February’s theme to be posted tomorrow!

Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 1.30.12

Hume Lake | Kathleen Summers

SUPPLIES : [MELLOW] MEL-D604 Mellow Starter KitMEL-D606 Mellow Textures, [HELLO LUSCIOUS] HLO-D888 Hellow Luscious Starter Kit.

For those of you who love creating two page layouts, this sketch is for you!  This week’s sketch is based on this layout by BasicGrey digital design team member Kathleen Summers.

Kathleen explains, “This is such a versatile design for multi-photo two-page layouts. I used designs like this even as a paper scrapper. You can create 8×10 photo grids in photo-editing software which allows you to easily size, crop, and place your photos in a way that looks best. Then have your local developer print them if you don’t print your photos at home. I used this trick a lot!”

As always, we ask that you create a layout based on your own personal style and simply be inspired by the sketches we provide.  Don’t have a lot of photos handy for a two page layout?  Or maybe you’d rather create a single page project?  No worries!  Simply use either single page sketch for your layout!

Sweet Treats | Melanie Bauer

SUPPLIES : [KISSING BOOTH] KIS-3551 Butterfly Kisses, KIS-3565 We BelongKIS-3570 Element Stickers, KIS-3571 Alphabet Stickers, [BITTERSWEET] MET-1554 Glazed Brads.

Instead of creating a two page layout, I was inspired by the tight photo placement of Kathleen’s project and created a single page layout using our latest collection, Kissing Booth.  I kept the layout linear in design and also placed border elements along the left side as she did.  To create more depth to my layout, I used dimensional adhesive for two of the sticker elements.

We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by February 5, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, be sure to also upload it to ourBasicGrey flickr pool so that other BG fans can find your work easily.

CONGRATULATIONS to our winner selected at random from the comments we received by the noted deadline :

Lilith– Congratulations on being selected as our Eye Spy feature this week! We’ll be sending you some BasicGrey product your way as our way of saying thanks.
