For those of you who celebrate today, Happy Halloween!  And for those of you that love creating two page layouts, we have a reason for you to celebrate too!  This week’s sketch is based on this layout from BasicGrey design team member Leanne Pearce.

Leanne says, “I’ve used a mixture of Indie Bloom and Out of Print for this two page layout.  I used the reverse side of the Indie Bloom papers as I love solid colours.  Plus it really made the banner pop on the pages more.  And of course, I’m never one to be shy about using embellishments!  I love to layer and cluster them.  I wanted this two pager to be just like my little girl’s personality which is carefree and playful with a touch of whimsy.”

Although this week’s sketch is for a two page layout, don’t feel that you have to create one if that’s not your style!  Why not simply choose a single page of the sketch to inspire you?  Simply grab your photos and get started!

We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch. Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by November 6, 2011 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, be sure to also upload it to our new BasicGrey Flickr page so that other BG fans can find your work easily.

Think a themed collection is only good for that theme only?  Think again!  We loved this card we spied in our Flickr pool that used bits and pieces from our Nook & Pantry collection to create these eclectic holiday ornaments.  Proof that you should make your product work for you and not the other way around!

Virginia – Congratulations on being selected as our Eye Spy feature this week! We’ll be sending you some BasicGrey product your way as our way of saying thanks.

Weekly Challenge : Use Stamps

THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE : Use stamps on your project.  A layout, a card, whatever the project may be!

This week, I’ve asked BasicGrey altered design team member Tammy Tutterow to participate in our challenge.

Supplies: [OUT OF PRINT] OUT-3323 Mish Mash, OUT-3326 Newsflash, XHA-CL536 Sweet One 4×6 Stamps, XHA-CG330 Flower Dot Pattern, OUT-3293 Bowtie Stickers, [TOOLS] Precision File Set.

[OTHER] Ranger Archival Ink: Aquamarine and Jet Black, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Black Soot, Ranger Inkssentials Ink Blending Took, Fiskars Circle Squeeze Punch Medium, Therm O Web Peel N Stick Sheets and Zots Singles 3D, wood frame.

Tammy explains, “One of my all-time favorite BasicGrey products, no matter what collection is the background solids.  I love making photo frames and often use the solids for covering the frames.  I love that while they usually have a pattern, it is subtle enough to accent my photo while not competing for the focus.  The solids in the Out Of Print collection are no exception.  For this frame, I wanted to build on the brush stroke pattern by adding random stamping in a monochromatic color theme.  I inked the large background stamp with a complimentary ink color and then used a dry towel to randomly wipe away the ink along the outer edges.  This allowed me to add random stamping to the frame surface without it being a block-like shape.  I repeated the inking and blotting several times for different areas of the frame.  For a second stamped element, I stamped the small circular dragonfly stamp on another piece of pattern paper and punched it out with a circle punch.  I layered the stamped element on the center of a Bowtie Sticker.  I really love that the frame is visually interesting while still being simple, allowing my photo to really be a focus.”

We can’t wait to see what you create for this week’s challenge! Leave a comment below with a link to your project and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by November 3, 2011 at 11:59p MST.
