I always love the Pieces and the Buttons. I can see lots of awesome cards from the 6 x 6 Paper Pad.

Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 8.28.11

If we heard it once, we heard it over and over again in the almost 500 comments you left us telling us what you’d like to see on the blog.  SKETCHES!

You know we aim to please, so each and every Monday you can expect a sketch to inspire your next project here on the BG blog.  We’ll provide you a sketch and an example or two of how we put the sketch to work so that you’re able to go straight to work without any chance of a creative block whatsover.  Sound like a plan?

This week’s sketch is based on one of our digital templates.  That means digital and hybrid crafters?  You have no excuses for not participating this week as we’ve made it so easy for you to join in the fun!

This also means that all of you that asked for more two page layout inspiration?  We’re looking out for you!

Supplies : [OLIVER] MET-2720 Assorted Brads, VER-2716 Sticker Elements, VER-2702 Greyson (navy grid/grey stripe), VER-2700 Drake (green), VER-2709 Tate (multi-striped/white circles), VER-2705 Keegan (red polka dot), VER-2698 Austin (red chevron), VER-2713 Tyson (red solid), VER- 2706Mason (navy solid), [OLIVIA]  VIA-2639 Isabella (white), BUT-2667 buttons (clear), [WANDER]  WAN-2983 Sticker Mini Monograms (red), [HELLO LUSCIOUS] HLO-3249 Sticker Micro Monograms alpha stickers (black).

The amazing Kelly Goree took a turn with this week’s sketch and followed it almost down to the letter.  With a change in title placement and the addition of embellishments, she created this amazing sports themed layout.

Supplies : [PICADILLY] PIC-3528 Farm Fresh Eggs, PIC-3516 Breakfast Nook, PIC-3526 Three Layer CakeMET-3537 Stitched Brads, PIC-3534 Titles StickersPIC-3532 Element Stickers, [OXFORD] OXF-3376 6×6 Paper Pad, OXF-3378 Alpha Stickers, [OUT OF PRINT] OUT-3338 Sticker Titles.

I played along with this week’s sketch as well, although at first you might not realize it.  To me, a sketch is simply a jumping off point.  I don’t normally use smaller size photos so my layout has a completely different look than the sketch.  Instead of a 5×7 photo on the left page of the spread, I created a horizontal band with four 4×6 photos.  To mimic the vertical column of photos on the right page, I used five photos in two distinct columns.  My journaling and title work went in relatively the same location as they were placed in the sketch.

So… Are you ready to scrapbook?  We’d love to see what you create from this week’s sketch.  Leave a comment below with a link to your layout and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a collection pack of your choice. Comment must be posted by September 4, 2011 at 11:59p MST.

If you upload your layout to your blog or online gallery, be sure to also upload it to our new BasicGrey Flickr page so that other BG fans can find your work easily.

Here’s to a great Monday and completing at least on scrapbook layout this week.  This sketch should have you well on your way!

Now Shipping : Notions

Before I began working for BasicGrey, I clearly remember Kristina Werner tweeting about these amazing notions that BG had come out with.  They weren’t anywhere on my radar so I was psyched that she alerted me about them.  And now I feel that it’s my duty to do the same for you!

Have you seen the new BasicGrey Notions?  No?!  Well let me tell you what you’ve been missing!

First up?  The Blossoms.  Every time I see these, I instantly want to make headbands for my daughters using them.  Okay, so maybe I’d make one for myself as well…

Or perhaps a necklace?  I love this project that was created for our booth.  A one of a kind statement piece for sure.  An easy way to spice up an ordinary ensemble.

Next up?  Glazed buttons.  These totally remind me of the glazed brads I love to include on my scrapbook layouts.  A little bit of bling for your next project.

Another booth project – and something that wouldn’t have crossed my mind!  Buttons used to create a one of kind necklace?  I’ll take one!  Or two.  What a thoughtful handmade holiday gift if you’re one of those people that think so far in advance.

Also somewhat similar to one of our scrapbooking products?  These amazing Stitched Buttons.  They’re like little circles of texture.  Take a project from ordinary to extraordinary in a snap!

A simple bobby pin + a stitched button = amazing accessory!  A perfect gift for a little one’s birthday party or a one of a kind stocking stuffer for a stylish friend.  Or both!  Why choose when the project is so easy and the possibilities are endless?

These canvas Vintage Patches can quickly add a bit of the past to the most contemporary of projects.

A handful of Vintage Patches makes an eye catching home decor project.  The perfect accent piece for a blank wall that you’ve been meaning to find something to adorn it.

And last but certainly not least, the BG Essential Buttons. Resin buttons in any color you could possibly need.  Here, the buttons adorn a pin cushion but also act as a color swatch of sorts to easily view buttons you have in your collection when selecting them for your next project.

WHEW!  So many notions, so little time.  And I didn’t even tell you about the NEW Samplers, Gift Card Holders and Fabric!

We forgot – we’d love to share some of our new notions with YOU! Leave a comment below telling us what you would use our Notions for and we’ll select one commenter at random to receive a selection of them. Comment must be posted by 11:59p MST.

Have a great Sunday – I hope you’re able to spend some of it creating!
