Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 2.11.13

This week’s sketch features three elongated photos.  Or does it?  What if you used a larger photo or paper and cut into three smaller pieces?

Hello Normal | Kelly Noel Hello Normal | Kelly Noel

BG scrapbook designer Kelly Noel used this week’s sketch to create this fabulous layout utilizing our new Hey You and Hey Boy collections.  Kelly says, “I have fallen completely in love with these lines! As a boy mama, I’m loving the colors and embellishments so much! I also adore how well these lines go together. I mixed them here using the sketch as my inspiration for the design. The thing I love about sketches is that they can be interpreted in so many different ways. I was inspired by the three strips that were intended to be photos, but instead used strips of patterned paper and a 4×6 photo across the strips. The large flower element on the left is replaced on my page by the adorable pocket and journaling tucked inside. I mimicked the circles on the sketch by using a mix of buttons and brads along the bottom edge of my photo and the title placement on my layout is similar to the sketch.”

Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 2.4.13

This week’s sketch from BasicGrey sketch artist Jana Eubank and is the perfect starting point for your next multi-photo project.

BG scrapbook designer Shannon Tidwell used this week’s sketch to document these photos of her husband and daughter.  Shannon says, “I was immediately drawn to the cluster of photos on the sketch, but decided to use that inspiration to cluster a few embellishments.  I used the embellishment cluster to base my title on as well.    I loved the circles borders, and envisioned something with machine stitching. Once I started playing with all the goodies in the True Love Collection I decided to replace the circles with hearts.  Also instead of adding the journaling strips next to the photo I replaced it with a banner. I really got a lot of inspiration from this sketch and was able to come up with a layout all my own!”

Digital designer Kathleen Summers also used this week’s sketch to create a layout along the same color scheme.  Kathleen notes, “I stuck pretty closely to the sketch. It’s a great 3-photo design and I love the balance and the plenty of white space for the eye to rest. It turned out to be the perfect way to document our 18th anniversary!”

Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 1.28.12

Take a peek at this week’s sketch, the perfect starting point for putting several smaller square photos onto a layout.

Digital designer Mary Rogers used this week’s sketch as inspiration for her layout.  Mary notes, “I knew instantly that I wanted to use some of my insta-gram photos for this fun sketch.  The size of the squares and placement was perfect.  I had a fun confession to share and thought the BasicGrey Blog would be the perfect place.  I stayed true to the sketch, keeping my focus on the photos and paper choices.  The Euphoria collection matched perfectly with my iphone cover.  So purple and so me.  I added a shadow to the ribbon to give it depth and “stroked” each photo to give them a border to mimic the insta-gram look.  You could easily add 3 or more photos to the sketch without it feeling crowded.”

awesome sketch! I followed Mary’s and Valerie’s ideas quite close – small pics, focusing on what’s happening in the pictures rather than everything else. Love the sketches, keep ‘em coming!

Basic Scrapbook Sketch : 1.21.13

This week’s sketch from BG sketch artist Susan Stringfellow is sure to be a favorite with our legion of two page layout fans!  What’s that?  You don’t create two page layouts?  Not a problem, you can still use this sketch!  Use only one side of the sketch to create a one page layout, or reduce it to create a card – the possibilities are endless!

Delicious | Marinette Lesne

BasicGrey scrapbook designer Marinette Lesne used this week’s sketch to create this amazing layout.  Marinette says, “When I saw the double page layout sketch for this week,  I was a little scared because I never do two pages layouts but I love the sketch and the way this turned out. First, I decided to create a single page and instead of using multiple photos I chose to use only one square photo.  When I printed out my photo I already knew that the Paper Cottage collection suited the photo perfectly. I adore the pattern and embellishments from this line and I ‘m a huge fan of those accordion stickers.”
