One of the biggest trends on the fashion runways for Spring 2013 is stripes. Wide and bold, or thin and soft, stripes are appearing on everything from dresses to shows to purses. The look can range from whimsical to nautical, casual to elegant, depending on the width, color and direction of the stripes.
Stripes are an easy trend to translate to your scrapbook pages and are appropriate for so many topics. And if you can’t find the perfect striped paper for your project, it’s simple to create your own custom pattern. I’ve used the True Love collection to create this layout, featuring a large striped matte:
I created the matte by cutting various-width strips from the pink, aqua and white grid papers. Then I adhered them diagonally to a 9.5 x 9.5 piece of card stock, trimming off any overhang. Finally, I added some rows of stitching:
I mounted this striped piece on a patterned background that echoed the diagonal striped theme (just on a smaller scale!). I layered my photo and die cut title on top, finishing it off with arrow accents in both chipboard and vellum.
So keep your eyes open for new trends in fashion, decor, and design…it’s amazing how many can easily be showcased on your scrapbook layouts!
