Breakthrough Year | Erica Hernandez

Today we’re sharing a layout that our July BasicGrey guest designer Erica Hernandez has created and asking you to Scraplift This!  We simply ask you to use Erica’s layouts as a jumping point for your next creation be it a card, layout, altered art – whatever!

Erica notes, “I’m loving hexagons right now (who isn’t?) and woodgrain and the grey and yellow color combo are long time favorites. The touch of red just seemed to fit and thus, a layout is born! I’ve always enjoyed using larger photos cropped into slightly irregular sizes and all of that open space was begging for some text. I used the wordart by cutting the image into two separate layers that could be recolored and layered.”

Scraplift This Challenge : 6.15.12

Today I’m sharing a layout that I have chosen from the very inspiring BasicGrey flickr pool. When I came across the above layout by Miyuki Kawakami I knew this was the one I wanted to scraplift. The design and colors were just what I need to get my creative juices flowing. I loved the curve of the flower design on the left and the touch of banners were right up my alley.

I chose the Plumeria line to compliment the dress my niece was wearing and the accordian stickers made quick work of the design flow. I added a few extra chip stickers to a couple of them and took apart a few and did some rearranging to extend them a bit. Use them just as is or alter the Accordian pieces for a custom look! The banner stickers described my niece just perfectly; she is an amazing sweetheart of a girl!

Today we’re sharing a card that our May BasicGrey guest designer Joy Taylor has created and asking you to Scraplift This!  We simply ask you to use Joy’s card as a jumping point for your next creation be it a card, layout, altered art – whatever!

Joy notes, “I love how the depth of colours in this collection they are so striking, not to mention one of the most loved trends right now in the scrapping industry is the use of Chevron, so when opening up this paper pad to find a beautiful deep blue chevron I knew I just had to use it on this card.  I created one of my favourite styles which is to cut V’s into ends of pattern paper and layer over each other and by adding just simple touches of more pattern paper elements and a simple sentiment I found that this card came together so quickly.  For me to create this card was a little bit of a challenge as I am one that normally incorporates stamping with pattern paper, I loved that I created a card that had literally no stamping and only elements from this collection.”

Scraplift This : 4.2.12

We’d like to welcome and introduce you to Susan Weinroth as our guest designer for April 2012. 

Susan started scrapbooking off and on in 2000, and then in 2004 adopted her current style of page and card designs – and hasn’t stopped crafting since. She’s been lucky enough to have been published in a variety of industry publications – including Creating Keepsakes, BHG Scrapbooks Etc., Memory Makers, Scrapbook Trends, and Cards Magazine. She was a Memory Makers Master in 2006, and a member of the Creating Keepsakes Dream Team from 2010-2011.

When she’s not crafting, Susan is most likely chasing after one of her two (very active) little boys. In her (rare) spare time, she loves to sew, quilt, and nap(!). She’s married to her husband of almost 11 years, Eric, and currently lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – a sunny little community in North Florida right along the Atlantic Ocean.

Susan says, “There were just too many patterned papers that I LOVED in these collections, so I selected a variety of blues and greens and greys and then used my heart punch to punch a bit of each.  I arranged the punches on my background paper and machine stitched through each going horizontally and vertically to create a quilt-like effect.”
