November 2012 : flickr Friends Reveal

It’s the last day of the month which means we have another round of flickr Friends to reveal!

Each month, we provide a theme for you to use on your projects and then upload to our flickr pool. At the end of each month, we select a few of our favorites to post here on our blog and send them some BasjcGrey goodies as our way of saying thanks.

The theme for this month was “stripes”.  Nearly each – if not all! – BasicGrey collection includes a striped pattern.

Without further ado, here is our favorite from our flickr pool using this month’s theme :

Thank you

Not finding a striped paper you like for a project or simply want to make it your own?  We love the stripes that drip from the large flower embellishment on this card.

Striped banners paired with floral embellishments as well as a dotted patterned paper combine for a lovely Thanksgiving themed card.

The strip of striped paper not only highlights the circular cutout but also grounds the card as well.  Gorgeous!

A BIG thank you to all of you who uploaded your projects – we love being able to feature your work here on the BG blog.  Winners, be sure to keep an eye on your flickr mail as we’ll be in touch shortly to arrange your prize!

November 2012 flickr Friends Challenge

A new month brings a new theme for our flickr pool challenge and we hope you’ll be a part of it!

Each month, we provide a theme for you to use on your projects and then ask you to upload them to our flickr pool. At the end of each month, we’ll select a few of our favorites to post here on our blog and send them some BasicGrey goodies as our way of saying thanks. Sound good? You’re free to create any project you’d like – a card, a layout, an altered piece, a mini album – whatever you’d like! You’re also able to incorporate the monthly theme into projects that you upload for our sketch series or any other challenges.

And now for the details…

The theme for this month is “stripes”.  Nearly each – if not all! – BasicGrey collection includes a striped pattern.  We’d love to see how you include them on your next project!

Here Fishy Fishy | Shannon Tidwell

BG scrapbook designer Shannon Tidwell was the first design team member to create a project with this month’s theme.  Shannon notes, “Stripes….that’s like the easiest assignment ever! I use stripes on every single page I make…okay probably 99%. You might not think that you can mix stripes together, but you really can. My page has several different stripe patterns going on. The background is a tiny diagonal stripe. Because it’s so tiny it blurs together and doesn’t overwhelm the page. Up at the very top of the page I used a wide stripe in the same colors as the background. The other main element that has stripes is the title. I wanted to use a contrasting color so that the title stood out. You’ll also notice that I separated it from the striped background by placing some polka dots behind it. Polka dots and stripes are best friends.”

Autumn Walk | Kathleen Summers

Digital designer Kathleen Summers also tackled this month’s theme to create a stunning autumn themed layout.  Kathleen says, “The thing I love about striped paper is that it can be the perfect thing to tie several colors together on a page. The striped paper on this page from the Mellow Collection has a beautiful range of fall colors and even the blue of the sky! It was a great way to enhance the fall feel of the page and it goes with my photos beautifully.”

Now it’s your turn! Upload your projects to our BasicGrey flickr pool, making sure to tag it with our monthly theme “1112stripe” so that we can find it easily. Projects must be uploaded by November 29, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

October 2012 flickr Friends Challenge : Speech Bubbles

The theme for this month is “speech bubbles”.  There are speech bubbles in our Shine On collection that are inspiring us this month.  We’ve seen them on projects everywhere as of late and want to see your take on this trend!

Speech Bubbles | Lisa Dickinson

We love how BG Scrapbook Designer Lisa Dickinson was inspired by this month’s theme!  Lisa notes, “Speech bubbles were the perfect design element for this page about my son. I was wanting to express (rather ecstatically!) how proud I am of him for his recent behavior and these bold sentiments were ideal.  Each speech bubble was die cut from white card stock, and then I backed them with a variety of BasicGrey patterned papers. To add some dimension and interest, I embellished each bubble with a small color-coordinated sticker, brad or flag.”

The iPad | Mary Rogers

BasicGrey Digital Designer Mary also used the theme of speech bubbles as inspiration for this layout.  Mary comments, “What a fun challenge this month and so fitting with what is going on in our life right now.  My daughter Madison has special needs and we really wanted to apply for a grant to get her an iPad to use at home and school.  A fabulous friend came to the rescue and now we are working on finding apps that will help with her communication.  The Euphoria Digital Collection was the perfect choice for me.  I love the vibrant papers and border quotes.  To customize the quote, I used it as a brush, actually placing it twice, and erased the portions that I wanted to customize or that were duplicate.  I found the iPad logo from Google and recolored it before inserting it into my layout.  I kept the layout focused on the story and photos, adding only a few elements besides the speech bubble, which I created.”

Now it’s your turn! Upload your projects to our BasicGrey flickr pool, making sure to tag it with our monthly theme “1012speech” so that we can find it easily. Projects must be uploaded by October 30, 2012 at 11:59p MST.

The theme for this month is “arrows”.  Our newly released Soleil collection contains arrows in many of the embellishments.  Arrows are also super trendy now – a perfect opportunity to give them a try!

Without further ado, some of our favorites from our flickr pool using this month’s theme :

make sure you have goggles on

The arrows in this layout blend effortlessly with the banners and other embellishments.  We did a double take trying to find them upon first glance!

912arrows - BG Sept Challenge

What an amazing layout!  A mix of vintage BasicGrey as well as BG packaging.  The arrows used are perfect to draw attention to the layout’s photo.
